Description

The requested service is to provide Equine Assisted Therapy to Veterans who are receiving outpatient care/services from Mental Health Service at Veterans Health Care System of the Ozarks (VHSO), located in Fayetteville, AR. Equine Assisted Therapy is an evidence based holistic and whole therapy more broadly referred to as evidence-based practice. According to the association for behavioral and cognitive therapies, equine assisted therapy is characterized by an adherence to psychological approach and techniques that are based on scientific evidence in prolonged exposure therapy. Therapy must be provided in an environment conductive to recovery. No alcohol and illegal drugs shall be allowed to the premise. The VHSO has a need for this type of unique therapy for Veterans who suffered from post-traumatic events and other traumas. Equine assisted therapy is well studied and empirically reviewed as an evidence-based modality. These modalities together will amplify the overall health and recovery experience of Veterans. The requirement consists of providing therapy including horses once per week (90 minutes per session), four (4) or five (5) sessions per month.
